The Scariest, most haunting game I've ever played

I like horror games. I played several of the Resident Evil series, and their ilk. I enjoyed all of them until I met the Fatal Frame series. I have been spoiled by lush graphics, enthralling storylines, and genuinely terrifying hours of gameplay. RE is fun, and abuses it's camera angles to increase the scare factor. Fatal Frame is more of a minimalist, knowing there is more horror in uncertainty and the unexpected than in knowing the streets are filled with zombies. Any one game of the Fatal Frame series will leave you haunted in your own home. The basic game mechanic whereby you defeat enemies is a camera. Yep that's right not a gun, a harpoon, a knife or spear but a camera. You're defeating many truly horrifyingly animated spirits of the dead by taking their pictures. It doesn't leave you empowered, and sometimes running away is a much better choice than fighting. These games still feature in my nightmares, I slept with the light on for months afterward and yet I'm still highly anticipating number 4. It's my favorite game franchise and one that's often over-looked, though it was voted 2nd scariest video game ever by X-play, and I highly recommend it to anyone mature enough to withstand it.

Scary!

If you like games that are very frightening, this is the game for you. This game is best played at night because this game will make you scared. I recommend this game to all except for people who can't handle it. it is rated M for a good reason. If you don't have this game you are missing out.

Terror returns with Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly. This time the journey takes you to a whole new setting: an abandoned village, where you play the role of Mio Amakura, a young girl who is gifted with a strong sixth sense and her twin sister Mayu, who notices a crimson butterfly faintly glowing in the sky.
